Parenting Puzzle Workshops: An evaluation of parenting self-efficacy (Harris, 2016)

The Parenting Puzzle Workshop is a 4-week programme based on the Nurturing Programme, but adapted specifically for parents with children under the age of 5.

The data analysed in this research report comes from 16 Parenting Puzzle Workshop groups running in 2015 and 2016.

A pre/post measure design was used, with parents asked to rate their parenting confidence (or parenting self-efficacy) across eight identified dimensions of parenting in the Tool to Measure Parent Self-efficacy (TOPSE) questionnaire.

The results showed a statistically significant improvement in parenting self-efficacy following attendance at the Parenting Puzzle Workshop, with effect sizes ranging from medium to large for all eight dimensions assessed by TOPSE. The most notable improvements were in emotional control, discipline and the perception of external and internal parenting pressures.
